OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aims to analyze features, functions, and effectiveness evaluation of VR in the application of breast cancer care. METHODS: A scoping review was conducted based on the framework suggested by Arksey and O'Malley. Eight electronic databases (ie, PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CINAHL, CNKI, China Wanfang Database, and China Biology Medicine disc.) was searched. Articles published from inception till 01 April 2024. RESULTS: After screening 16,606 articles, a total of 21 papers were included. 10 immersive VR studies and 8 non-immersive VR studies. The main themes identified included the classification and function of VR, content elements of VR for Breast cancer care (eg, symptoms, rehabilitation, and education), and evaluation of the effectiveness of VR (eg, clinical outcomes, experience, adverse effects). CONCLUSION: VR in 2 categories has potential applicability in symptom, rehabilitation, and educational management, with high satisfaction and acceptance by most patients. However, the current application of VR in breast cancer is limited, and there is still a need to optimize VR component design and focus on its long-term impact on patients and related stakeholders in the future.
