Lymphedema Management
Cancer-related lymphedema is a chronic condition causing persistent swelling typically in the arms or legs, when lymph nodes or vessels are removed, damaged, or altered during cancer treatments like surgery or radiation. At our clinic, we manage lymphedema using Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), universally recognized as the gold standard of care. Because effective management requires a comprehensive approach, your treatment is broken down into two distinct phases: an intensive decongestion phase followed by a long-term maintenance phase, relying on four core, scientifically proven components.
- Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD): A specialized, gentle massage technique that stimulates lymph vessels and redirects trapped fluid toward functioning pathways.
- Compression Therapy: Multi-layered, short-stretch bandages transitioning to custom-fit compression garments to prevent fluid from building back up.
- Decongestive Exercises: Targeted, low-impact movements performed while wearing compression to utilize the body's natural muscle pump.
- Meticulous Skin and Nail Care: Crucial hygiene protocols designed to eliminate bacterial entry points and reduce infection risk.
We also provide Pneumatic Compression Therapy β an advanced intermittent pneumatic pump that safely applies sequential, controlled pressure to further accelerate fluid clearance.
